# Brand Personality

### Brand Personality

### What is it?

Brand Personality is the set of human characteristics attributed to a brand. It defines how the brand thinks, speaks, and behaves across every touchpoint, giving it a consistent and recognisable human quality that audiences can relate to and build a relationship with.

### Why it matters

People relate to brands the same way they relate to people. A brand with a clear personality is easier to recognise, easier to trust, and easier to build a relationship with over time. Without a defined personality, brand expression becomes inconsistent: different teams and agencies interpret the brand differently and the result is a brand that feels generic or incoherent. Personality is also a differentiator in markets where functional differences between products are small or difficult to communicate.

### When it matters most

Brand Personality becomes most important when a business is defining its brand strategy for the first time, when brand expression has become inconsistent across channels or teams, or when a brand is struggling to build emotional connection with its audience despite strong functional performance. It is also worth revisiting when a brand has undergone significant change, such as a merger, rebrand, or shift in target audience, that makes the existing personality feel misaligned with the brand's current reality.
