# AoM Principles

These principles govern how the AoM is designed, maintained, and applied. They act as constraints for decision-making, ensuring the model remains clear, consistent, and practical over time.

#### Build on best-in-class thinking

The AoM organises and connects established thinking rather than introducing new concepts. It draws from existing frameworks, models, and disciplines, referencing original sources where possible so that ideas remain traceable and extendable. New thinking is only introduced where clear gaps exist.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Structure as a system

Marketing is a system of interdependent decisions, not a collection of isolated activities. The AoM defines how concepts relate to one another across six sections, making the impact of decisions visible beyond their immediate context. The focus is on understanding and managing the whole system, not optimising individual parts in isolation.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Standardise language and design

Marketing concepts are inconsistently defined across organisations, teams, and AI systems. The AoM applies consistent naming, definitions, and structural design across all components to ensure shared understanding. Terms are defined explicitly and maintained as a single source of truth.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Treat design as core to strategy

Design shapes how strategy is understood and applied in practice. The AoM treats design as integral to the system, not something added afterwards. All outputs including models, frameworks, guides, and courses are structured and presented to ensure ideas are clear, interpretable, and usable. Well-formed strategy that is poorly designed becomes difficult to understand, misapplied, or ignored.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Make it universal

The AoM is designed to work across industries, organisation sizes, and roles, from executives to specialists to non-specialists. It is structured for compatibility with AI systems and is publicly available and version-controlled to support broad access, consistency, and ongoing evolution.
